Winter 'wander' Land 08/01/2012
That’s exactly how I spent much of my time lately– just wandering. I wandered the lands during the holiday season visiting the oldest and most celebrated Christmas Markets in Europe. Christmas is a time of fairytale and Europe is surely the place to spend it. Visited cities in Holland, Germany, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Belgium…All cities offering their own unique style, celebration and put on great shows! I had a magical scene fit for any Christmas story. Dusting of white snow, roasted chestnuts, watching the craftsmen at work while sipping my hot cinnamon scented mulled wine, explored a museum that displayed vintage toys, musicians serenaded as I strolled by, stumbled upon an endless number of bars, cafes. I took a closer look at stalls selling everything you could ever need, offering crafts, wood carvings, ceramics, toys, decorations, sweets, one-of-a-kind gifts. Have to say found the best markets in Germany, the main 1 was being held near the Cologne Cathedral. I was absolutely blowned away. Also found the markets to be very impressive in Nuremberg, Dresden, Frankfurt, Munich and Bruges. Holland is deffo a place for putting down the guidebook and exploring on ur own. Cobbled lanes take u along the canals, the beautiful architecture reflects in the water. My oh my... Perfect opportunity to mess around with my new camera. By hiring a bike the odds of getting lost are reduced, I thought. Still I managed. The weather didn’t treat me well either. Turned into a damn snowlady. After rescued, all I carried the whole day thru was a (huge mug) bowl of hot choc. I also skated my ass off while travelling. After 2 months of resting and healing, I was finally able to skate again. Joined the guys at the German miniramp comp in Cologne which was fun. To be honest I can hardly believe it. So much progress in so little time! Didn’t push myself though coz I need more time to finish healing completely. I really enjoyed being part of this event. It was a pleasure to session with the locals. Awesome skaters! So friendly. It’s funny how everyone wanna sponsor me with the Nimth skates. I kinda regret it that never accepted one, sortof needing a new pair. It’s just so hard to leave behind my old ones. Loving them. I got a little carried away at the after party haha, when woke up at the bar I got freaked out by a weirdo who sat next to me doing a proposal?! I literally fell off my chair. Appearently we were talking hours. Shame I can’t remember a word. Oh Jezzzz. This guy n all this Dubstep craziness gave me a serious headache. Met the dudes from the park n we were off. All in all had a great time n thanx for having me! Got arrested in Venice for skating a bridge.. This is a long story but to cut it short, I was looking forward to skate in Italy, was gonna go to the Xmas jam that is held in Milan at Trinity every year and I’m normaly there. Didn’t even check the flyer, took it obvious it's the same venue, only when I got there realized it wasn’t. Park was shut. From then on everything went wrong. That day no phone or cash dispenser worked, started snowing heavily, got lost, my suitcase fell apart, my hat broke, coffee tasted like piss, the hotel I booked was in the middle of nowhere so ended up paying £ £ extra for taxi and the place sucked, no power, no heat at night, n ahh not to mention the most arrogant taxi driver ever from who I learnt some nasty words. That’s it! I was ready to jump off a bridge. The following day crossing one in Venice while walking through the picturesque town, I reconsidered it, and that’s when a crazy idea popped up in my mind. And my head kept repeating it. Why not skate it, idiot!?? -My brain is just like ahaha you have to go for it! It’s totally doable! -And I'm like DX stop it! no I don't! -And then my brain is like imagine that you do! There's a handrail attached to the side of the bridge, no big deal! -Yeah but its a bit too high, man.. Ok, I was hooked. Once I finished the conversation with myself, I started to sort things out. Managed to nick a stand from a vendor at the xmas market which I carried up to the bridge. The local newsagent guy was in charge of keeping an eye on my cam and the rest of my stuff. .I knew I didn't hv much time, so quickly had my first attempts. The crowd caused me more stress than the trick itself. I hated being the centre of attention and bet if none is there I do what I want for at least the 2nd time. As u can expect after 5 min I was welcomed by the police since someone reported a suicide threat. Passport chechk. No probs. Sorted. They r Gone. I should hv a fake ID on me when skating the streets.. The thing is, I hate being told what to do. And I wanted to hv that trick more than anything… I don’t live by the rules just because they are the rules. I try to make up my own mind and then decide whether I want to rebel or not. It’s a lifestyle and attitude I can really identify with. U have to tell me to do the opposite of what I really want, and I will rebel ending up doing what U want. That’s the way I work. So had a couple of more attempts before I was arrested n put on a train later that day. You can't always get what you want but I would be a fool for not trying it at least! The stress is over, went on searching for more crazy spots in Europe, and just was having fun, fooling around, being inventive, skating how I feel like. You might disagree but for me sk8ing isn’t all stairs and rails. That’s how I ended up sessioning a tree in Austria. Meeting amazing ppl as always, catching up with the homies, skating with the hungarians, having a real good time! Thanx god theres no party pics from New Years Eve!! I didn’t spend it safely at home… and it probably won't surprise you that I started to like someone I Should not... Anyway decided to leave town n hit up Holland again and hv the first sessions of the year there. Visited the main parks: Are51, Skateland, skatepark A’dam…was chilling with amazing friends I met on my previous travels, hohoho the concerts at The Rambler were nuts again!! I’m still in 1 piece and in Brussels at the mo, enjoying the Belgian beer, chocolate and God only knows where I’m going next. Hope it's not too late to wish everyone a good year ahead! x Comments Comments are closed. |
